HAPPY NEW YEAR

2021 has been a super season for our yard, in fact our best yet. We hit a purple spell at the back end of the summer which made us all feel like we were walking on air.

Our star of the season was Gweedore for Lamont Racing who racked up 4 wins and 4 further visits to the winners enclosure from 11 starts this season. Gweedore is quite an incredible horse who has now had 25 starts and never finished further back than 6th place. He is a credit to his owner who purchased him as a yearling and gave him the patience he needed, he is the type of horse that is likely to improve again now he is in his fifth year. He is a pleasure to train and I am excited to have him back out on the track around April time.

A personal highlight for me was Spartakos getting his head in front twice this season. He belongs to Making Headway Racing who are great supporters of the yard and set up their successful syndicate last year. Spartakos winning was such a big highlight because he is a tricky customer and definitely made us work for the first win, also we always knew he would be capable when he got the right conditions and it is always great to be justified. It was extra special when he followed up with another win.

Elladora also produced a very satisfying win at Hamilton in the hands of Jason Hart, she was so game to win and hopefully back on turf next season she will be good fun. She took a fair bit of patience from her owners as she was tricky in the stalls to begin with but she is now the ultimate professional.

You will all remember the year kicked off with Nellie French racking up a Wolverhampton double under Phillip Dennis, she runs in my mum Sylvia's colours so that is always special. 'Mary' as she is known at home suffered a fracture pelvis so she missed the turf season but is now back in action and looking forwards to some more Wolverhampton trips.

We go into 2022 hoping to maintain our success with our flat team and looking to improve our National Hunt string that has been lacking a little over the past couple of seasons. We do have a few young horses in the yard that we hope can contribute with that. We also have two really exciting two year olds to look forwards to, young horses are amazing to have and really keep the dream alive.

All the best for 2022!
