Ayr Gold Cup

Saturday past seen us send out our first ever runner in The Ayr Gold Cup. Gweedore was the only Scottish representative in a race that has not seen a Scottish winner since 1975. It was a massive achievement just to have a horse good enough to get in to the race but to see him run such a fine race to finish a close third of 25 runners was a massive thrill for all of the team. Craig and all the rest of his owners at Lamont Racing are big supporters of Scottish Racing and it was great to see their colours take part in the biggest flat race in Scotland. A huge day for young jockey William Pyle as well getting to showcase his talents on the biggest stage.

The smiles say it all!

This was Gweedore’s first run at the bare 6f and there was a lot of debating as to whether it was the right thing to do with him but he excelled and it will be very tempting to give him another run in the sprint division before the end of the season.

Happy team Lamont Racing after The Ayr Gold Cup

Another horse who deserves a mention this week is the fabulous Sacred Falls, always running a solid race but not managing to put her head in front. Her form now reads 442222. It is hard to say she does anything wrong but more looks to keep bumping in to a well handicapped horse. She has been a super, low cost buy by Scott and Alison who picked her out from the Godolphin draft at the February sales. They identified her as a filly that with a bit of time could be a good fun, horse and so far it looks like they were right. Hopefully she can put one on the board soon.

Sacred Falls and Jason at Musselburgh

A highlight in the past fortnight was Spartakos winning well at Musselburgh in the hands of Jason Hart, rewarding his patient owners Making Headway Racing. He has been waiting for his conditions all summer and when he got the wet ground that he likes he delivered in fine style like we know that he can. He had a quick turnaround and ran respectably but the tacky ground at Catterick the following Saturday did not play to his strengths.

We head in two directions tomorrow. Curious Rover makes his handicap debut in what will be testing conditions at Haydock under William Pyle for URSA Major Racing. Nellie French heads to Newcastle to make her seasonal debut for Sylvia Scott under Ryan Sexton.

No entries for the weekend so we are fitting in a party on Sunday to celebrate what has been a fabulous summer!
