A Weekend In York

We enjoyed a fantastic weekend in York with our two runners doing us proud. It is a track I love to have runners at, we have had five so far including 2 x 2nds and 2 x 3rds, still chasing the elusive York winner!

Friday saw Curious Rover finish a cracking second on testing ground just being caught late on by a horse that will likely get further in time. Plenty of The URSA Major Racing owners were there to enjoy the day and we were thrilled with the run. He was beautifully turned out by Casey and won BTO. His attitude is amazing and he just loves his racing. A pleasure to train.

On Saturday Gweedore was one of 22 to line up in the 100k Coral Sprint Trophy, a second run for him over 6f. He ran a blinder for his owners Lamont Racing finishing a close third. He has been unbelievable this season. His consistency and incredible constitution is a credit to his owners, all of the yard and Abby who rides him most days. He has struck up a fine partnership with his young jockey William Pyle. What a horse he is!!

The trip to York was made even better as I was able to attend the URSA Major Racing’s 5 year celebrations in the Knavesmire stand on Saturday after Gweedore’s race. A great afternoon/evening well organised by Craig and great to catch up with so many of the amazing owners. There were definitely a few sore heads on Sunday morning after some hefty celebrating.

Last Thursday was spent at Tattersalls yearling sales where URSA Major Racing made an unexpected purchase to send to us here at Lindean. It was unplanned, but Craig and I just loved this Starspangledbanner filly so much that we could not leave her behind. Socks as she has become affectionately known is a very exciting prospect for next season and there are shares available in her. She will join our Lightening Spear yearling and they will be backed and ridden away over the next weeks before they have a short break. Next season looking exciting already!!!

The weather has turned wintery and the horses are now all double rugged and the next few weeks will see plenty of clipping as the horses grow their winter coats.

A steady week ahead runners wise. Today we were at Musselburgh with Flash Bulb who disappointed and now heads to the breeding sheds. Tomorrow Guest List runs at Newcastle and she needs to show some improvement in what looks a weak race. On Friday we have the exciting Sacred Falls in at Redcar. Jungle Jean, Bowood and Noble Captain are in at Newcastle but the geldings are likely to get balloted out which is very frustrating.

No runners in for the weekend!
