A Doncaster Dead Heat
It has been a while since I updated this blog and undoubtably the highlight in the meantime has been Gweedore scoring at Doncaster on Saturday night. He scored in a dead heat with the Charlie Fellowes trained Atrium joining him on the line in the dying strides.
This will go down as his best win to date off a mark of 95. He has now been allocated a career high mark of 97, 32 pounds higher than the 65 he was on when he joined the yard. It was the second time William Pyle had taken the reins on him and the 7lb claim was definitely seen to good effect on the rain softened ground. His stamina just held and in the immediate aftermath of the race I thought we had been collared so was pleased when the result was called. Gweedore has ran three weekends on the bounce with plenty of travelling so will have at least 3 weeks before his next run. We are very privileged to train him for Lamont Racing and he is taking us all on the most fantastic journey.
Our other winner this month came in the shape of Slainte Mhath who scored at Hamilton at the start of the month, she did so well but the handicapper did not miss her with a 7lb rise for her efforts. She has visited the placed enclosure again since with a fourth in a competitive affair at Carlisle. I am hoping she will run at Hamilton next Saturday night!
As well as our winners we have had plenty of horses run with credit over the past few weeks. Noble Captain and Spartakos have both placed multiple times for Making Headway Racing and are both surely due a win soon. Elladora put in a fine run at Carlisle for a good second carrying on her consistent season.
I have been impressed with Sacred Falls who has put in two positive performances in warm novice races at Doncaster and Haydock. She will head to Ayr next and I am excited to see where her future lies.
We are saying good bye to the fabulous Far From A Ruby who has been an amazing asset to the yard and her fabulous owners URSA Major Racing. She has been amazingly consistent for us but was showing signs that this was no longer the right lifestyle for her so she is heading to retirement away from racing. She has been replaced by Annie Maher who has settled in well to life in The Scottish Borders.
This weekend sees us with no runners. It has been much needed to catch up on jobs at home after a very busy spell with runners and owners visiting the yard.
We kick off again at Ayr on Monday where we have three entries. We will also have entries at Redcar, Newcastle, Musselburgh, Hamilton and Thirsk. The quiet spells never last long!
