It’s Been A While

The new years resolution should probably be to update this blog more consistently as it’s ben a while!

It has been a busy few weeks with plenty of miles covered since the turn of the year with several trips to both Wolverhampton and Southwell. Both of which are a 10 hour round trip from the yard. I am currently travelling down to Wolverhampton and have been relieved of driving duties for a few hours which has allowed me to catch up on a few admin jobs. Always helpful!

We have had many placed horses over the past few months so it was great to see Nellie French put her head in front at Southwell on Friday. She has been knocking on the door her last few runs and she fully deserved this win along with her regular race partner Phil Dennis. Mary, as she is known affectionately at home thrives at this time of the year, helped by the abundance of Class 6 5 furlong races at this time in the season. She seems to love the tapeta with her last 3 runs yielding a third, a second and a first. Her gutsy performances give us a huge amount of pleasure.

Big Smiles at Southwell

Most of our runners recently have been at Newcastle, Wolverhampton and Southwell. I am aware that many look down on the lower grade all weather meetings with a bit of disdain but these tracks keep us, along with many other yards on the go through the depths of winter. The three courses have been fantastic at entertaining owners and looking after all our stable staff and horses. The level of owners hospitality just continues to improve across the board and it is just fantastic to see and to enjoy. The stable staff are increasingly well catered for at all these tracks as well which I am sure everyone will agree is just as important!

When not on the race track we have been flat out at home., The turf horses have their shoes back on ready for the start of the flat season which is very exciting. It gives me thoughts of sunshine, light mornings and summer nights. The last few weeks have been testing with the weather swapping back and forth from heavy rain to hard frosts. Neither of which are particularly helpful.

Gweedore is back in work ready for 2023 campaign

So we head down to Wolverhampton today with Rockley Point and Kitty Pi where Aiden Brookes takes the mount on both. Our next runners will be on Thursday at Newcastle in what looks a quiet week on the runners front.
