Doubling Up

We felt we were close to a double a few times last summer when the horses were in great form but we finally scored our first one under rules this past Thursday.

Rockley Point won at Southwell by a head under a typically strong ride from Jason Hart. He was flat out the whole way and I am told he traded at over 900/1 in running, however he galloped all the way to the line to prevail by a head. Rockley Point was my first ever flat winner and to see him get his head back in front at the ripe old age of 10 was fantastic and means the World to me.

Later that night Nellie French won in fine style up at Newcastle under her regular partner Phil Dennis. She got the strong pace that she enjoys and she stalked the leaders to then pull away well in the closing stages. Both of these sprinters hold entries at Newcastle on Friday night and I will see what the handicapper does before making any decisions on declarations there.

The Winning Pictures

We have moved a few horses on in the past month that were looking like their careers lay away from the racecourse. Kitty Pi and Meet Me There are both heading to the breeding shed for their owners so it will be exciting to see their foals on the ground next spring. Halcyon Dreams headed south where she is going to point to point under a teenager and hopefully they will have some great days out between the flags. Justathimble heads to do some Riding Club in Northumberland which she should excel at. It’s frustrating when the horses are not good enough on the track but it is very satisfying to see them head in to another job.

Today we have been at Alnwick point to points where Jack finished a pleasing 4th on Cooldine Bog in a competitive looking Conditions race. The sun was shining and there was a great turnout of spectators and horses.

Our next runner is Flash Bulb who lines up in a novice hurdle at Ayr tomorrow!
