A Week of Places

The highlight of the past couple of weeks has definitely been Far From A Ruby picking up a clear second at Ayr on Friday night. She is a tough little cookie and battled hard to be beaten by a horse that had been given a little leeway by the handicapper. The handicapper has not been so kind to us and he raised her 2lb for her efforts, it may not seem like much but she is just a half pint! She holds an entry at Musselburgh on Monday and I think we will claim off her to reduce the effort of the handicap raise.

We had a couple of horses finish in the placings at Hexham on Sunday as well. That’s Your Lottie ran a nice fourth under Bruce Lynn. Lottie has been a tricky mare but she tries her heart out on every visit to the racecourse, nothing would give me more satisfaction that seeing her win for her patient owners. We will likely look to give her a try at Cartmel as she travels well and the track may just suit the way she races. I was also pleased with yard newcomer Cooldine Bog finishing third under Ryan Mania. ‘Max’ as he is known in the yard was purchased with the plan of being a point-to-point school master so any prize money picked up on the track is a bonus.

Elladora had a busy couple of weeks finishing 3rd in an amateur jockeys race at Hamilton and then 6th at Carlisle. She seems to be coming back to herself and improving with each run this season.

A round up of the unplaced horses. Colinton tried hard at Ayr but is perhaps a little off the boil and will have a couple weeks rest, Halcyon Dreams ran okay at Perth but we expected a little better. Spartakos travelled well at Ayr but needs a bit more cut in the ground to be seen at his best.

A quiet week for us runners wise with only two out. Elladora goes again at Hamilton on Thursday night as does Kitty Pi who makes her yard debut. Phil Dennis is booked for both.

This morning was an early start as we took 4 down to Newcastle. Two babies (Artemis Flyer and Maureen’s Lass) for education and two older horses (Slainte Mhath and Gweedore) that are waiting on a bit of rain before going back to the track. Great opportunity to get them a change of scene and a good gallop, very grateful to the team at Newcastle.
