SUNNY PERTH
Great to have the sun shining for a couple of great days at Perth. Hard couple of days for the staff travelling up and down and they very kindly ran the yard for a day as I stayed in Perth and had my first morning off since July, great team effort. It was my cousin Alison's hen doo on the Thursday at the races and although I managed to enjoy them for lunch having three runners meant that I was fully able to attend the celebrations but they had a fabulous day and Alison looked absolutely stunning. Hopefully they get as good weather for the wedding day itself. The horses all ran well with Whatsthestoryman finishing a very close 4th on Wednesday night and Galleon's Way having an unseat at the last when looking booked for 3rd place. On Thursday Kalastar ran an improved race to be 4th only beaten 10 lengths and Jewellery really appreciated the quicker ground to run a stormer for 2nd. We have been thinking out of the box with these to runners over the last week and they both followed the Cornet home from Cogsmill on Tuesday as part of the 2016 Hawick Common Riding celebrations, the change in scenery (and some big ditches) seems to have done wonders for them. It wouldn't be ideal for all horses but as these two both have sensible enough natures it was a good fit, even if mine and Hayley's arms were a few inches longer on Wednesday morning. Calton Entry pulled up after suffering from EIPH and will be heading home to his owners to try his hoof at something else. He is a stunning and talented horse so very frustrating but we have definitely given him every chance and hopefully he can settle into a new career.Quiet two weeks for jumps racing in the north now and we wont have a runner until Hexham on the 24th!
