February.....

It has been a difficult week for training horses all over the country and it has been exceptionally cold here in the Borders.  Really impressed with our sand/carpet surface that has stood up brilliantly to some very low temperatures this week allowing us to canter the horses right through this hard frost. We had entries at Catterick today and Musselburgh tomorrow so very disappointing to see both fixtures abandoned, although the early notice makes it a bit less disruptive to the yard.It is a testiment  to the team that we have kept it going - all horses exercised, well fed, clean, warm and happy even when it’s minus 8.We welcomed Irish pointing recruit Flaming Glory (pictured) in to the yard the end of January and he has settled in well to life in Scotland.  This smart son of Gold Well is well behaved to which makes it all so much easier! We also seen Knocklayde off to a new home where he will be taking part in some local rides and riding club activities for his new owner. Great to see him be able to turn his hoof to something else after disappointing on the racetrack. Our next entries are at Ayr on Wednesday where the forecast is looking milder from the weekend onwards.
