I was thrilled to see Jackmeister Rudi win at Catterick yesterday for owners Making Headway Racing. In the hands of his old friend Gina Mangan he travelled very well in first time cheek pieces, battling on well at the end to hold off a strong challenge from Reigning Profit. Michael who runs Making Headway Racing picked Rudi out from a seller at Catterick in July, he was looking for a horse that would give his owners plenty days out at the races. He is just a 3 year old and is looking a good buy for the outfit with plenty fun days sure to come with him in the future.

Scottish Racing have been running a ‘Horse Of The Month’ competition since the spring and Gweedore was nominated for September after his fabulous win on Ayr Gold Cup Day. He faced stiff competition from another popular Scottish horse the 12 time winner Tommy G, also in there was Lucinda Russell’s Gem In Em. There was not much in it but Gweedore just clinched the win for the second time this summer. Its a 24 hour vote on twitter and a good bit of interest and competition between the Scottish yards.

The weather feels particularly wintery as we head in to October and we have a few soft ground horses that I am excited to see out on some rain soaked ground. Spartakos and Slainte Mhath have both been waiting for rain for a while! The horses are tucked up in warmer rugs and the dreaded clipping will start next week. It is definitely my least favourite job on the yard.

Today I am heading to Wolverhampton with Rockley Point. He is back from a summer break and I am hoping he shows some of his old zest today. He is a much loved part of the yard and has been showing plenty enthusiasm at home but the R word has been mentioned a few times over the summer. He will tell us what he wants to do.

The weekend sees us out with some jumpers. Halcyon Dreams and Ginger Pointe declared for tomorrow at Hexham, with Evita Du Mesnil and That’s Your Lottie are in on Sunday at Kelso. It would be fabulous to get a jumps winner on the board.
