Here Come The Girls

It has been all about the fillies this week at Lindean with Slainte Mhath winning and three exciting young fillies joining the yard.

Slainte Mhath scored her second career win at Hamilton on Wednesday under Phil Dennis. I was thrilled by the performance and we are all confident she will improve again for some cut in the ground. She hung right in the closing stages, Phil thought that was a sign she did not want to totally let herself down on ground that was a little too lively for her.

Returning to the winners enclosure at Hamilton

Elladora finished close behind in 5th but she pleased us and looks to be knocking on the door for a win. Samurai Sneddz ran another strong race on Tuesday night for fourth at Carlisle over 1m6, he is such a genuine little horse and always gives his best.

Yesterday I took Colinton down to Haydock where he finished fourth, beaten 2.5 lengths. Colin has been an absolute superstar for us this season and has put four good wins and many places on the board. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if this run was a career best or at least very close to it. He was running off a career high mark and carrying top weight against a classy looking field. Very lucky to have such a smashing little horse in the yard for his owners Scott and Alison.

The consistent and loveable Colinton

I have has a bit of a hectic week myself despite not having a heap of runners. After Samurai Sneddz ran at Carlisle on Tuesday night I left straight for Tattersalls Newmarket August sales to buy a horse for a new owner. It was a late nights driving followed by a busy day of inspecting horses. We then drove home on Wednesday night stopping at a services to watch Slainte Mhath and Elladora run. It was a another late drive home followed by an early start back south to Haydock on Thursday. I was quite grateful for a day at home yesterday to catch up on jobs before a trip to Wolverhampton with Far From A Ruby today. Tomorrow is a bit more sociable as I head to URSA Major Racings Owners day at York, then Newcastle Monday night followed by a trip back to Newmarket to look at yearlings on Tuesday. No rest for the wicked as they say.

New Arrival Guest List

The trip to Newmarket was a successful one as we secured lot 207 ‘Guest List’ out of the Kevin Ryan yard. A lovely big 3yo filly I am looking forwards to seeing her out on her preferred soft ground and may also look at stepping her up in trip.

We have also had two other exciting fillies join the yard over the past few weeks.

Flash Bulb came over from Joseph O’Brien’s yard and she looks a shrewd buy for Making Headway Racing. She has had a few weeks off and we are now cracking on with her and excited to see her on the track.

Flash Bulb

Just A Thimble, an unraced 3yo Gutaifan filly has also joined us from her breeders in Ireland. Her brother Acai finished a very good second at Haydock on Thursday for Clive Cox which was great to see. We are going to give her a spot of work and then all being well we will be looking to syndicate her out for lease ownership. So far she has settled in well and looks a nice relaxed filly.

Just A Thimble

I am currently heading to Wolverhampton where Far From A Ruby lines up at 4.40 in the apprentice handicap. We also have entries next week at Newcastle, Catterick and Musselburgh!
