We had a fantastic start to the week kicking off with Stoney Rover finishing second to a classy animal at Ayr on Monday under a lovely ride from Stephen Mulqueen. It was a great start to his career and he is looking a very exciting prospect for the yard. His owners Fiona, Kenny and Dave Telfer are great owners and have been staunch supporters of mine from day 1 and its great to see them getting rewarded for their loyalty. A trip to Catterick on Tuesday resulted in a game win for Rockley Point under Phil Dennis, it was an eventful race but he dug deep and was resolute to the line.
Ayr yesterday was a bit frustrating as Getaway Gerry ran a bit disappointing despite showing a fair bit of ability on the hill at home. Hopefully we can get to the bottom of it. Newstart didn’t quite get home lugging a large weight round Carlisle today but ran well for long enough and will come on from his first run off a break.
When the horses run a little below expectations it can be very difficult for us, the owners and of course whoever is in the saddle. Sometimes you need to take a step back and look at the bigger picture-animals are unpredictable, can be difficult and most unfortunately can not tell us how they are feeling in the morning pre race. I am trying to learn myself not to wallow in self pity when these poorer runs come along but it’s definitely easier said than done. Most importantly this weeks runners are home safe and sound
Rockley Point has had his shoes removed after his win at Catterick on Tuesday ready for a well earned holiday. Since the 22nd August he has posted the form 2241271 and I couldn’t have asked for a better horse to kick start my career training on the flat. When he comes back in ready for next season he won’t be the only flat flag bearer for the yard but will be joined by yard newcomers All About The Pace, Robben Rainbow and Naples Bay. Very exciting times ahead!!
We will have entries this week including Musselburgh, Sedgefield, Hexham and Kelso.
