Hard to believe we are in to April already and after such a wet start to the year the ground is drying up just a little too quickly.
A pleasing couple of runners this past week with both runners finishing in the prize money. Gweedore headed to Newcastle on Friday for his seasonal debut where he lined up against a competitive field who all had runs under their belts. He ran well picking up fourth but got found a little leg weary in the last furlong and will definitely improve, he will be back out at the end of the month. Slade Storm picked up a great second at Carlisle yesterday putting in a cracking round of jumping on his chase debut, he hasn’t been the easiest horse to keep right so hopefully we can reap the rewards for our patience.
The best thing over the past week was having some owners back out at the racecourses over the past week, hopefully the first step back to some normality.
We have a couple of new projects on the yard to keep us busy over the next few weeks. Our Black Sam Bellamy 2yo Sam has been brought in to be started off and will be backed and brought to half fit over the next couple of months. We also had a filly join the yard that is also to get started off, so two babies to keep us busy!
Tuesday marks my last appearance of the season as a columnist in Racing And Football Outlook, it’s an experience I have enjoyed over the winter and I’m very appreciative of the opportunity. Hopefully it has given the readers bit of an insight into life in a smaller yard.
This week sees Elladora head to Newcastle on Wednesday, Rockley Point holds an entry at Catterick the same day but it looks like the ground will be too quick for him. We will also have weekend entries at Newcastle and Kelso but we would like to see some rain!
